Central Maine Power Company
CMP provides electrical service to Harfords Point, and their website provides a great deal of information for landowners and customers.
As landowners, it's helpful to understand how CMP carries out their responsibility to maintain clearance for primary transmission lines. This information is available on the Tree Care and Land Use and Access pages of their website. The FAQ page also has a lot of additional helpful information.
CMP clears vegetation around primary transmission lines on a 5 year cycle with Harfords Point currently being about mid-cycle. They also deal with hazardous trees as the need arises. There is no distinction between primary lines on public and private roads.
During the maintenance process, CMP will clear 15' above and 8' to each side of primary lines. They will also trim 2' around service lines that carry the power to your house. When they trim, the contractors will chip the brush and leave the wood for you (unless you don't want it). They will take into consideration when a tree is part of landscaping in front of a house and contact the owner. If you would like to request that CMP contact you before trimming on your property, you can do so with their Tree Care Form.
The information above pertains to routine maintenance. For storm and outage emergency response, the priority will be removing trees as necessary to restore
